VS2010: BadImageFormatException

Yesterday, I ran into a situation where running the solution caused a BadImageFormatException to be thrown when loading a project.

This turned out to be due to VS2010 Beta defaulting to “x86” build when VS2008 defaults to “Any CPU”.  Of all the projects, I’d created 2 in VS2010 before moving the files, .csproj et all, to a VS2008 solution. This caused the build to switch to “Mixed” resulting in the exception being thrown.

The solution was to recreate the offending projects in VS2008.
