Fan control on MacBook Pro

September 3, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Here’s one way to reduce the extra heat generated when Vista is running on a MacBook Pro under BootCamp.

The tool is not compatible with BootCamp’s Keyboard Manager (KbdMgr.exe). So here’s how to run it:

  1. Kill KbdMgr.exe.
  2. Run LubbosFanControl as an admin and increase the minimum fan speed. When it is running, the app dynamically sets the fan speed based on the CPU/GPU temperature.
  3. Exit LubbosFanControl and start KbdMgr from C:\Program Files\Boot Camp.

After the steps above, the fan speed will be set to the increased value you specified, but will not change dynamically.
