I missed this gem from SysInternals last week.
Disk2vhd is a utility that creates VHD (Virtual Hard Disk – Microsoft’s Virtual Machine disk format) versions of physical disks for use in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs). The difference between Disk2vhd and other physical-to-virtual tools is that you can run Disk2vhd on a system that’s online.
I found out about this interactive FIX data dictionary browser today.
Here’s one way to reduce the extra heat generated when Vista is running on a MacBook Pro under BootCamp.
The tool is not compatible with BootCamp’s Keyboard Manager (KbdMgr.exe). So here’s how to run it:
- Kill KbdMgr.exe.
- Run LubbosFanControl as an admin and increase the minimum fan speed. When it is running, the app dynamically sets the fan speed based on the CPU/GPU temperature.
- Exit LubbosFanControl and start KbdMgr from C:\Program Files\Boot Camp.
After the steps above, the fan speed will be set to the increased value you specified, but will not change dynamically.
Just a reference for self for the future.
Greenfish Icon Editor Pro seems to be a pretty decent editor. Best of all,
- it is freeware, and
- the download zip lacks an installer, making it ideal to work with on a locked down workstation.
It doesn’t support SVG format but I needed to work with PNGs anyway. I haven’t yet quite figured out how to swap colors in it.
Just a note to myself so I have it referenced for the future.
WebSequenceDiagrams is a handy alternative if you don’t happen to have a UML tool installed and ready to use.
